Head to Kerala This Holiday Season!

by Ragini Puri March 23, 2016 11 comments

Summer has officially kicked off in many parts of the country and when summer is here, can vacation be far behind? New classes in schools have started and I can see my Facebook timeline dotted with status updates from parents looking forward to the summer break and planning family holidays. And I see that most of them have their eyes set on Kerala, and why not, with holiday season just round the corner, Kerala Tourism is ready with myriad range of tour packages to engage all kinds of tourists.

When it comes to vacations, few other places match the wholesomeness that Kerala has to offer. From rolling hills and tea plantations to stunning beaches and the famous backwaters, Kerala’s diverse landscape never ceases to amaze the young and the old alike. It is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful places on earth, and it’s no wonder that it has earned the sobriquet – ‘God’s Own Country’! While the incredible landscape of this state is alluring enough, there’s also a myriad range of tourist places in Kerala to keep the visitors hooked.

As I plan my Kerala sojourn, I have already put together a list of must-dos that I intend to execute once I am there. From wandering around the mesmerising tea-estates of Munnar to experiencing the serenity of backwater boat-rides, from watching the sun rise and set over its glorious beaches to marvelling at the treasure trove of architectural and historical delights that this state takes pride in – I have to do it all. Last but in no way the least, rejuvenating my body and soul with special ayurvedic massages that Kerala is so famous for!

And how can I not mention food? Kerala is every food lover’s paradise. One can go on and on about Kerala’s delectable cuisines ranging from the traditional sadya to exotic seafood delicacies, but I am particularly looking forward to sampling authentic everyday fare like Puttu Kadala ( rice and coconut roll, eaten for breakfast), Thattu Dosa, Appam Motta Curry (Egg curry with appam) and of course Idiappam. If you too are a foodie at heart, rest assured that the tempting dishes from Kerala will not disappoint your taste buds.

Now all this food talk has got me hungry so it’s time to hit the kitchen and try my amateur version of appam for lunch! And if my Kerala travel plans have got you tempted too, go ahead and book a Kerala holiday right away. You already know there are reasons galore to do it! 🙂

Crisp post! Munnar looks like a dream! Have been thinking of a trip to God's Own Country for so long now, and most of the vacations we end up in some bustling hill station up north.
Hope this vacation, Kerala becomes a reality. 🙂

Nice article – just fyi though, reread the first line, I'm pretty sure it should be "summer holidays" instead of just "summers" twice. 😉
Cheers!

I was hoping to head to Kerala this year but decided on Vietnam instead. That means that it’s definitely going to be my one big trip next year! I thought it was all backwaters and tea plantations, I didn’t realise it had stunning hills like in that image of Munnar
